The aptly named RESPONSE Spine system and its features evolved out of the need to respond to the unique needs of pediatric patients with spinal deformity. These include lower profile tulip heads that can accept both a 5.5 mm and 6.0 mm rod and rod approximating devices that are easy to use and facilitate correction, whether the surgeon’s preference is to utilize a traditional ‘rod roll’ maneuver for spine correction or to translate the spine to the rod. The ease of use of the rod reducers has been extremely helpful to me to accomplish the goals of correcting the coronal deformity while also reestablishing appropriate sagittal alignment. These rod reducers also make it easy to perform subsequent direct vertebral rotation maneuvers for axial plane correction.
